20 Killed, Scores Injured in Accident Along Naivasha-Nakuru Highway

20 people died on Saturday morning and scores others injured after they were involved in a grisly road accident along Nakuru-Naivasha highway.

Rift Valley Traffic Enforcement Officer Mr. Zero Arome who led rescue operations said that the accident involved two trailers and a bus which was travelling from Nairobi to Busia.

The accident occurred when the bus was attempting to overtake a small vehicle and crashed into an oncoming trailer. A second trailer rammed the bus from behind causing more casualties.

13 bodies were strewn on the road with other bodies trapped in the mangled wreck.

A lucky survivor who did not wish to be mentioned confirmed that the 52 seater bus was overloaded with some passengers standing.

The bus, christened Flashlink, is said to belong to Superhighway Sacco which plies the Githurai 45 route but was being used to ferry passengers to Busia.

The driver of the ill-fated bus fled the scene and is still at large. The injured were taken to St Marys hospital.

Cases of accidents are on the rise and many are now calling on government agencies and other players in the industry to act fast to curb the menace.

It is not clear why the bus that plies Githurai 45 route found its way to Busia and if it had complied with all the regulations.

Efforts to reach the management of Superhighway Sacco were futile as they did not respond to calls.
