IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati Vows to Fire IEBC Staff Found Guilty of Influencing Award of Ballot Papers Printing Tender

Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chairman Wafula Chebukati has vowed to fire officers who will be found culpable of influencing the award of the Sh2.5 Billion ballot papers printing tender to Dubai-based Al Ghurair Printing & Publishing Firm.

Chebukati on Thursday promised that action would be taken if evidence proved the award process was not genuine as claimed by the National Super Alliance (NASA).

He urged the Opposition leaders and other accusers who might have knowledge on the issue to provide evidence.

The IEBC boss had earlier on invited all presidential candidates and their representatives to discuss issues arising from the Sh2.5 Billion tender awarded to the firm.

NASA co-principal Musalia Mudavadi had claimed that President Uhuru Kenyatta's younger brother Muhoho Kenyatta was linked to the Al Ghurair Company.

Mr Mudavadi also alleged that the Dubai firm's Chief Executive Officer, Aziz Al Ghurair, is a close friend of the Kenyatta family and frequents Muhoho's home.

Fellow principal Moses Wetangula and Siaya Senator James Orengo stated that President Kenyatta had met with Mr Ghurair on two separate occasions, once in Dubai and the second time in Nairobi.

"We want President Uhuru Kenyatta to come clean on his and his family’s links with the Dubai firm and state his interests in the contract that the firm was awarded. The interest, in our view, is clear. The President and his Jubilee team are looking for a firm that can supply extra ballots secretly as was the case in 2013," Mudavadi urged.

The NASA leaders, however, failed to substantiate their claims saying that they only received information on the details from a source.
