Details of Meeting Where Hassan Omar was Offered State Job to Step Down for Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho

Details have emerged of a meeting in which National Super Alliance (NASA) leaders failed to convince Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar to step down and support Governor Hassan Joho re-election.

Sources privy to the details of the talks indicate that the meeting took place at EnglishPoint Marina and was attended by NASA principals Raila Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka.

The Senator also confirmed attending the meeting in which it is believed the leaders attempted to offer him a state job to back Joho.

During the meeting, it is understood that Omar was offered a senior position in the government should NASA win.

However, those who attended the meeting disclosed in confidence that the Senator declined the offer, stating that he had no interest in the government job since he had invested too much in the race to give up.

The meeting was convened after NASA became concerned that the bitter rivalry between Omar and Joho could split its votes and hand Jubilee's Suleiman Shahbal victory.

The Senator affirmed to a local daily that he will be in the race stating: "At the moment, there is no turning back because we have already done a lot and gained ground. Whoever might even be thinking of such a thing should forget it."

Kwale gubernatorial candidates Issa Chipera (Orange Democratic Movement) and Chirau Mwakwere (Wiper) confirmed the existence of the meeting but declined to disclose further details.
