4 People Killed After Bus Hits IED in Mandera

Four people including a chief are feared dead after the vehicle they were travelling in hit an Improvised Explosive Device (IED).

The public service mini-bus which is reported to have been carrying 24 passengers run over the explosive at Sheikh Barrow area on the Lafey-El Wak road in Mandera County.

Other reports indicate that 11 other passengers were injured and were rushed to Lafey Sub-County hospital.

Mandera Governor Ali Roba condoled with the victims stating: "May the Almighty rest their souls in eternal peace. 4 including a chief have lost their lives after and IED explosion on Mandera Lafey road."

Confirming the incident, North Eastern Commissioner Mohamud Saleh said the vehicle was using a dangerous road which is prone to such attacks due to its proximity to the Kenya-Somalia border

"We had discouraged vehicles from using the route because it is close to the border and dangerous. No arrest has been made so far," he noted.

In the last few weeks, the region has been experiencing such incidents with more than 15 people losing their lives in similar ordeals.

Recently, several police officers perished after their vehicle hit an IED as they were accompanying Governor Roba who was on a campaign mission.
