Two days after Jubilee Party officials accused Opposition leader Raila Odinga of meeting with a South African Company to discuss the ballot paper tender, a representative from the company has come out to deny the claims.
Paarl Media Business Development Manager Ben Sachs dismissed the allegations affirming that he never met Odinga to discuss the tender.
The businessman noted that he only visited Kenya once in November 2016 to appeal a decision by the Public Procurement Board to award the tender to Dubai-based Al Ghurair firm but left after losing the case.
"It’s all lies. I have never met Mr Odinga as I have read in the news. We lost further interest in the contract after losing the case at the review board due to technical reasons and Paarl Media resolved not to pursue it anymore. I never returned to Kenya thereafter," Sachs stated.
On Thursday, Jubilee Party Secretary Raphael Tuju claimed that Odinga had held a series of meetings with representatives of Paarl Media to discuss the tender.
Tuju accused the NASA leader of having a vested interest in the ballot printing tender that was awarded to Al-Ghurair by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
He further stated that Jubilee had no interest in the tender and was comfortable with any company printing the papers to be used during the August General Election.
“We have said that give the tender to any firm. For us it is not the ballot papers that will vote, it is the people of Kenya,” the Jubilee Party boss.
