President Uhuru Kenyatta Orders Retailers Not to Force Kenyans to Buy Subsidized Maize Flour With Other Goods

President Uhuru Kenyatta has issued a new directive to retailers regarding the 2Kg packet of maize flour retailing at Sh90 amidst a shortage of the commodity.

Speaking in Kakamega, the President ordered retailers not to force Kenyans to buy other products when purchasing the flour.

The Head of State who was flanked by his deputy said: "Hiyo mahindi itakuwa ya kutosha na tunawaambia wateja wetu ya kuwa mkipata hiyo unga, msiwalazimishe wakenya wanunue vitu vingine

(the maize will be enough and we urge our retailers that when they get the subsidised flour, they should not force Kenyans to buy some other things)."

The President's directive came after a section of Kenyans complained that retailers were forcing them to buy other products along with the subsidised maize flour.

Kenyans have been struggling to access the rare commodity with the flour flying off the shelves. Long queues have also been witnessed at Milling companies as traders line up to receive the commodity.

Unscrupulous traders have also taken advantage of the shortage hiking the prices beyond the recommended Sh90.

Some have also been arrested while repackaging the flour to sell it at a higher profit.
