Raila Odinga Reveals Jubilee's Plan to Use Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) to Rig August Election

National Super Alliance (NASA) presidential candidate Raila Odinga has accused the Jubilee administration of dragging the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) into politics.

Addressing a press conference at his Capitol Hill Office, Odinga disclosed that selected officers were being trained for recruitment as polling and presiding officers to help rig the August General Election.

The Opposition chief disclosed that the alleged training is currently underway at various locations in the country including Embakasi Garrison.

According to Odinga, a secret meeting was held involving officers from Armed Forces, Director General of National Intelligence Service (NIS), the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (CID) and the Commandant of the National Defense College to plan how Jubilee would hold on to power.

"We are challenging the national government and the security bodies to explain to us, Kenyans, why they are training civilians in an exercise that is currently going on in Embakasi Barracks," he stated.

He further claimed that a team of more than 100 officers had taken over the premises of what used to be the Provincial Commissioner's office in Kakamega as part of a scheme to rig the coming elections.

"We also urge the military to stick to their values of protecting our country from external enemies and seize from being involved in matters 2017 general elections,” noted the presidential candidate.

The ODM leader appealed to the military to "remain faithful to the traditions of this country and not be dragged into politics."

Mr Odinga who will, later on, address public rallies in Kajiado cautioned the military to stay away from politics stating: "I am not trying to create a controversy with the military. I just want to caution them that they shouldn't be used by politicians.”

Responding to claims of alleged involvement in the ballot printing tender, Odinga dismissed the claims stating that he was not aware of the South African company being linked to him by the Jubilee leaders.

"They are making wild allegations about my involvement with a South African company. I am not that cheap to be involved in tendering for ballot papers. We are not rooting for another company," he stated.

He revealed that NASA was interested in the ballot paper printing to prevent a repeat of what happened in 2013 where extra two million ballot papers were allegedly printed to help rig the elections.
