Property Worth Millions Destroyed in the Political Rivalry Between Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua and Wavinya Ndeti

As the political rivalry between Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua and his main challenger Wavinya Ndeti heats up, property worth millions has been destroyed.

Last week, a water project in Kathumuoni, Kangundo funded by the county government was vandalised, cutting water supply to more than 500 households.

Unknown people descended on the project, vandalising the solar panels at the site.

CCTV cameras mounted by the county government in Mwala sub-county to boost security in the region were vandalised by unknown people.

Governor Mutua has blamed the wave of destruction witnessed across the county on Ndeti who will be contesting on a Wiper Party ticket should she be cleared.

He accused Ndeti of sabotaging his government and working day and night to reverse progress made in the county that has been cited by many as a success story for devolution.

Speaking at a meeting with the business community at Katangi ward, the governor made his stand known.

“I will not allow our people to be taken back to the primitive age because some people are hungry for power,” the governor said.

Mutua who has recently accused Ndeti of hiring youth to sabotage his government by failing to collect garbage and disposing of the garbage along roads in the county added:

“This is no longer about politics but choice between progressive, future based leadership or backward and enslaving leadership. The time has come to put our people first.”
