Oburu Odinga Admits Rigging 2013 ODM Nominations in Favour of Gem MP Jakoyo Midiwo

Nominated Member of Parliament (MP) Oburu Odinga, who is NASA flag bearer Raila Odinga's brother, has surprisingly confessed rigging the 2013 nominations.

Oburu admitted that during the 2013 ODM primaries, he colluded with other party officials to influence the elections in favour of Gem MP Jakoyo Midiwo.

He claimed that Midiwo had been beaten by current Gem ODM parliamentary candidate, Elisha Odhiambo, but the MP was eventually given the ticket to vie for the seat.

Speaking during a rally in the constituency, Oburu urged Midiwo, who his cousin, to quit the August race assuring that he would not win the seat as an independent candidate.

"The National Assembly deputy minority leader’s chances of recapturing the seat are nil. Jakoyo should forget about recapturing his seat since he has fallen out with ODM party," he was quoted by the Star.

He further blasted the independent candidates urging them to concede defeat and support the ODM aspirants like he did.

“If I ceded ground and accepted defeat when nobody would have done nothing if I chose to say, why not our disgruntled colleagues?” Posed Oburu.

The National Assembly deputy minority leader, who lost the April nominations to Odhiambo, ditched the party and declared that he would defend his seat as an independent candidate.

Midiwo and Oburu have in the past engaged in unending battles regarding the region's politics especially after the nominated MP declared his support for Odhiambo.
