Meru Governor Peter Munya Misses Uhuru Kenyatta's Rallies After Serious Warning By Kiraitu Murungi

Meru Governor Peter Munya went missing in action yesterday as President Uhuru Kenyatta toured Meru County to drum up support for his reelection.

Prior to the meeting, the governor had received a serious warning from Meru Senator Kiraitu Murungi who warned him not to attend any of the President's rally.

Munya was also warned by Igembe South legislator Mithika Linturi who also accused him of supporting the opposition.

"We know Munya has been hiring goons ... he should not bring his chaotic politics to the presidential function," Linturi said.

The governor had vowed to defy the warnings and attend the rallies. It is not clear why he skipped the events held by the president across Meru.

On Thursday, the Meru County boss complained that state officials were deliberately intimidating him.

He alleged that the head teacher at Nguyuyu Primary school was ordered by the County Commissioner to bar him from accessing the school.

The embattled governor fell out with Kiraitu Murungi who is the Jubilee point man in the Meru region.

Murungi will challenge the governor on a Jubilee ticket. Munya on the other hand is the Party of National Unity (PNU) candidate
