6 Members of Governor Isaac Ruto’s Campaign Team Arrested for Violating Electoral Laws

Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto's team found itself on the wrong side of the law during its campaigns after six of them were arrested for allegedly breaching the electoral laws.

The six including a driver were arrested in Bomet town at 8 pm on Saturday for allegedly creating a disturbance by playing loud music at night to popularise the party.

Bomet police boss Samson Rukunga stated that the arrested men, who were in a Chama Cha Mashinani Party vehicle, were campaigning at night which was an electoral offence.

“We have been trailing them for a while now. They have been moving around daily at odd hours and playing loud music, which is against the electoral regulations,” he stated.

Governor Ruto, however, denied the claim that the party vehicle was operating beyond campaign hours, stating that the police boss was just looking for an excuse to impound his vehicle.

Communication Director in the Office of the Governor, Vitalis Kimutai defended the men stating that the truck had broken down at the time of arrest.

“It had developed mechanical problems while at a function in Mismis, Chepalungu, and it had to be fixed at that time of the night in readiness for next day’s events,” he explained.

The Police boss, however, maintained that the vehicle was a regular offender of the electoral laws and had been breaching security.

He affirmed that the men will be arraigned in court tomorrow.
