Division and Disagreements Hit NASA Nairobi Campaign Team

The campaign team for the National Super Alliance (NASA) in Nairobi is deeply divided in what could see the coalition lose votes and key electoral positions.

A meeting convened by Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero and his deputy Jonathan Mueke failed to unite the divided parties.

The meeting brought together NASA affiliate parties including Wiper Party, Amani National Congress (ANC), Ford-Kenya and Chama Cha Mashinani(CCM).

During the meeting held at Uhuru Park, members from other NASA affiliate parties demanded to know why the coalition's rallies are often hijacked by the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).

They accused their ODM counterparts of not allowing candidates from other parties to speak during NASA rallies.

A rival faction boycotted the session and instead held a parallel meeting at a Nairobi hotel where they accused the governor of funding ODM candidates and leaving them out.

The rebel faction, led by Wiper candidates’ caucus chairman, Mutiso Mutinda accused Governor Kidero of attempting to share out elective positions in the county.

The team also blamed NASA presidential candidate Raila Odinga for drumming up support for his ODM candidates through advocating for the six-piece voting pattern.

The Nairobi Woman Representative seat is perhaps the most contentious seat. Wiper party is represented by Rahab Ndambuki while Esther Passaris will contest on an ODM ticket.

With no solution in sight, Jonathan Mueke disclosed that they would approach the coalition leaders to help in addressing the issue.
