Jubilee's Anne Waiguru Clashes With Martha Karua and Other Politicians Over President Uhuru Kenyatta's Campaigns in Kirinyaga

The stage is already set for a major political showdown as President Uhuru Kenyatta takes his vote-hunting mission to Kirinyaga County today.

Former Devolution Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru has warned Martha Karua not to attend the president's rallies.

Waiguru and her team stated that the event is purely a Jubilee Party affair and other parties allied to Jubilee and independent candidates have no business being there.

Her running mate Peter Ndambiri expressed hope that the president will endorse Jubilee candidates during the tour.

“We belong to the Jubilee Party which the President is seeking re-election with and we are optimistic that he will campaign for us,” he stated.

Ahead of the visit, Karua and her team were in top preparation to receive the head of state, vowing to accompany him in a series of rallies across the country.

Other candidates dismissed Waiguru's camp stating that the president should embrace all those who support his re-election bid and no one should dictate to him what to say.

Gachoki Gitari, who is Karua's running mate, said that “when the president arrives we expect him to drum up support for himself only and leave Jubilee and other candidates from different parties to face off."

"We should not dictate to the President on what he should talk about,” he added.

Politicians have warned that the rivalry between Jubilee candidates and independent candidates as well as those from parties allied to Jubilee is a threat to Uhuru's re-election.

The differences between the two rival camps played out during President Kenyatta's campaigns in Muranga, Nyeri, Meru Tharaka-Nithi, Elgeyo-Marakwet and Uasin Gishu with ugly scenes being witnessed.

In Kirinyaga County, Anne Waiguru (Jubilee) and Martha Karua (NARC-Kenya) have emerged as the leading contenders to succeed incumbent Governor Joseph Ndathi who will be contesting as an independent candidate.
