Machakos Senator Johnson Muthama Supports Wavinya Ndeti in Governorship Race

Machakos Senator Johnson Muthama has surprisingly made a u-turn and expressed support for Wiper gubernatorial candidate Wavinya Ndeti.

Muthama on Wednesday morning stated that he was backing Ms Ndeti who he said is better than incumbent Governor Alfred Mutua.

Speaking during an interview on a local station, the Senator compared the two aspirants noting that the former Kathiani MP was better though she was not rightfully nominated.

“Wavinya is better than Mutua because we know her family and where she comes from. That is why she is better than Mutua,” he stated.

This was a complete about turn from a previous statement where he dismissed the candidature of Ndeti maintaining that Governor Mutua was a better option for Machakos County.

During the morning interview, the Senator attacked Mutua accusing him of embezzling public funds insisting that he was not capable of leading the county.

However, even though he supported her bid, Muthama claimed that she had not been properly nominated since the exercise was “shambolic”.

He revealed that Ndeti did not garner the close to 300,000 votes during the primaries, therefore, she will not be fairly elected if she wins the governorship race.

Muthama has been wrangling with Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, accusing him of dictating and imposing incompetent leaders on the Kamba Community.

In May, he announced that he would not be defending his seat in the upcoming elections, but will instead spearhead Raila Odinga's presidential campaign.
