Nyali Aspiring MP Millicent Odhiambo Embarrasses Herself by Saying Manhattan Instead of Manchester

Nyali aspiring Member of Parliament Millicent Odhiambo is the latest victim of stick from the Kenyan online fraternity after a statement she made while lamenting about billboards controversy in Mombasa County.

Ms Odhiambo was addressing ongoing battle of supremacy in the region where aspirants, especially gubernatorial ones, have been fighting over the placement of their billboards.

On Tuesday, Nyali MP and governorship aspirant Hezron Awiti put up his first billboard at the Buxton junction near Nyali Bridge but were reportedly pulled down following an order by County Transport and Infrastructure Executive Taufiq Balala.

Speaking on the issue, Odhiambo expressed her agitation by this power struggle stating: " We are in a battle, we are seeking for governorship. It is not a child's play. We must be seen...we are not in some football of Arsenal and Manhattan where you cry when you are defeated or not. This is about our lives."

Immediately, Kenyans noted the statement suspecting that she meant Manchester United because that is one of the most anticipated matches in the English Premier League and the two clubs - Arsenal and Manchester United - command a huge following in the country.

The netizens took to social media making fun of the whole speech and here are some of the reactions:

Machakos gubernatorial aspirant Wavinya Ndeti recently found herself in a similar situation after erring in one of the Kiswahili proverbs that made her a trending topic on social media.

The proverb is supposed to be, 'Yaliyopita si ndweletugange yajayo,' which simply means you should not dwell on the past but focus on the future.

Ms Ndeti, however, said, 'Yaliyo ndwele sipite,' much to the amusement of many Kenyans.
