NASA Leader Raila Odinga Speaks About Accepting August Election Results During Radio Maisha Interview

Pressure has been mounting on National Super Alliance (NASA) Presidential candidate Raila Odinga to come clean on whether he will accept the outcome of the August election should he be defeated.

On Tuesday morning, Odinga was put to task over the same issue during a radio interview and he stated that "in the unlikely event" that he is defeated, he would accept the will of the people.

"Mimi mwenyewe nitafanya uamuzi wangu baada ya uchaguzi in the unlikely event that nishindwa mimi nitaheshimu uamuzi wa wakenya."

Loosely translated: "I will make a decision after elections. In the unlikely event that I lose, I will accept the will of the people," Odinga stated on Radio Maisha.

Asked why he had not officially come out to announce whether he would accept defeat in the upcoming polls, Raila explained that it was needless for him to declare whether or not he would accept the results. He went ahead to cite the 2013 General Election where he contested the results at the Supreme Court with President Uhuru Kenyatta's victory being upheld by the court.

"Mimi sina hata haja kusema...na wanajua mara ile ingine mambo ilipoenda mrama tulienda mahakamani."

Loosely translated: I don't see any need to say that. They (Kenyans) know that they other time when things did not go well we went to court," the former Prime Minister noted.

President Uhuru Kenyatta has already announced that he will respect the will of the people and hand over power should he lose the coming elections.

Yesterday, Odinga's party, Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), issued a statement confirming its position that "it will accept nothing short of a credible, free, fair and verifiable election; and that it will reject results of a manipulated election where the will of the people did not count."
