The first 2017 presidential debate scheduled for Monday July 10 has been cancelled and postponed to July 24.
In a statement by the organisers, Debates Media Limited, the debate was cancelled to allow more time for consultations following the advice of the High Court.
The Steering Committee wrote that the court's ruling that outlined new Presidential Debate Guidelines for 2017 Elections was a historic landmark ruling to the young Kenyan constitution.
"Following the Court's decision, the Steering Committee is engaging various campaign teams to set up briefing sessions on the debate format and other logistical issues," the statement read in part.
It further provided details of the scheduled presidential running mates debate affirming that it would continue on July 17 as scheduled.
Jubilee presidential candidate President Uhuru Kenyatta, through the party's Vice Chairman David Murathe, on Wednesday announced that he would miss the debate.
