The National Super Alliance (NASA) Presidential candidate Raila Odinga has now stated that he will participate in the Presidential debates.
In a statement to newsrooms, Mr Odinga's adviser Salim Lone stated that the opposition leader was ready to face off with President Uhuru Kenyatta after the High Court ruling.
“NASA presidential candidate Raila Odinga welcomes the ruling this morning by the High Court allowing Debate Media Ltd and the Presidential Debate Secretariat to proceed with their proposed debate plans.
"This allows all presidential candidates the opportunity to present their ideas to Kenyans and the worlds. At the same time, the two main contenders for the presidency will be accorded more time to speak to the country on their records and vision,” Lone stated.
Mr Lone further noted that the decision to rescind their earlier position was influenced by new changes that will now see the two main contenders get more time to sell their agenda.
He announced that the former Prime Minister was looking forward to the debate with relish, and urged his opponent, President Kenyatta, to accept and avail himself to address issues facing Kenyans.
President Kenyatta and Mr Odinga had on Wednesday announced that they would not participate in the debate citing poor formatting.
The debate had been set for the 10th of July 2017 but has since been postponed to 24 July 2017 to allow for consultation.
The Presidential running-mates' debate will, however, kick off as scheduled on 17th July 2017.
