NASA Leader Raila Odinga to Launch New Book Titled "The Quest for Nationhood"

National Super Alliance (NASA) presidential candidate Raila Odinga is set to release his new book titled "The Quest for Nationhood: Roadmap to Our Future".

The book gives details of past elections in Kenya, highlighting how the Opposition factored into the tapestry of the elective processes.

He recalls the 1968 election that was postponed apparently because the ruling party, Kenya African National Union (KANU) faced a tough battle with the then opposition wing of the Kenya People's Union (KPU).

The former Prime Minister also recounts Kenya's early post-independence struggles with draconian colonial laws with a greater focus on the law that allowed for detention without trial.

"The post-independence Act gave the President unlimited personal powers to detain people without trial, whoever he wished, for as long as he wished," the 125-page book reads in part.

The NASA chief asserts that damage caused by the ills during former President Jomo Kenyatta's administration are to blame for Kenya's current situation.

"Jomo Kenyatta and Daniel arap Moi both preserved and served the system as the colonial governors before them. The hand of the State was visible in the pre-election violence in both 1992 and 1997," Raila posits.

The Opposition leader revisits events of the 2007 election that he believes were former President Mwai Kibaki's tight grip on power, refusing to let go of the presidency.

He further lists the Post Election Violence (PEV) period that followed as another defining moment for the nation of Kenya.

Odinga describes his book as a guide for the young people on "how Kenya can recover lost ground and achieve prosperity for all".

He adds that he wrote the book for the youth in the country who were not there during the historic times as well as those who may have forgotten the details.
