4 Wiper Party Leaders Ask IEBC to Disqualify Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua

With about 22 days to the general election, Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has found himself in trouble after four Wiper leaders asked the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to disqualify him from the defending his seat.

Machakos Gubernatorial candidate Wavinya Ndeti, Mavoko MP Patrick Makau and Woman Representative Candidate Joyce Kamene Kasimbi accused the Governor of engaging in voter bribery.

The four stated that Mutua was breaking the elections laws by bribing voters with his initiative to give out loans to women so close to the elections.

According to Ndeti, the Governor through his wife Lilian Ng’ang’a was sponsoring the table banking fund that gave women loans of up to Sh 3,000 which they would pay after two months.

“Lilian Ng’ang’a is Governor Mutua’s spouse and we are asking on what capacity is she administering County government funds,” she stated.

She added that the funds had not been approved by the County Assembly nor had it been included in the 2016/ 2017 budget.

Agitated by Mutua’s move, Wavinya asked women not to sign the forms as the amount was too little for anyone to do business with.

She further accused the incumbent of economically sabotaging the county by giving a tax waiver to small-scale traders in the county without the approval of the county assembly.
