Kenya Railways Says There Are No Cracks on SGR Bridges

The Government has issued a statement allaying any fears that cracks have already developed on the Voi Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) bridge.

This is after a photo was shared online suggesting that the bridge was at risk of collapsing and the whole project was rushed.

According to the photo, cracks had developed on some pillars of the bridge but Kenya Railways refuted this by posting a photo of the actual bridge.

"We would like to clarify that the picture of the cracked bridge is not of the SGR from the speculations going round.

"The Voi bridge is in good condition as you can see from the first picture," said Kenya Railways in a statement.

Last week, there was panic after one of the SGR trains developed problems near Kibwezi leading to a delay in its arrival time.

On Monday, 5 people were charged with selling train tickets without authority.

The suspects were arrested while selling the tickets which can only be sold by the authorised agents or employees of the corporation.

Currently, there is no authorised agent in the country and passengers are expected to buy tickets directly from the stations.

The five denied the charges and were released on Sh10,000 bail by Principal Magistrate Edgar Kagoni. The case will be heard on July 31.
