Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho and Four Other Governors to Be Investigated for Flounting Electoral Laws

The Commission on Administrative Justice (CAJ) on Tuesday directed the Director of Public Prosecutions, Keriako Tobiko, to investigate five governors and seven public officers over allegations of electoral misconduct.

The five governors include Ali Hassan Joho (Mombasa) Peter Munya (Meru), Paul Chepkwony (Kericho), Simon Kachapin (West Pokot) and Julius Malombe (Kitui). 

CAJ wants the five County bosses investigated and prosecuted for allegedly using public resources in spreading their political agenda.

According to the Ombudsman (CAJ), Governor Joho, Chepkwony, Munya and Kachapin are accused of breached the Election offences Act by advertising their achievements on print media whereas governor Malombe is accused of branding his official government vehicle with Wiper Democratic Movement - Kenya colours.

CAJ Acting Chairperson Regina Mwatha also wants seven senior government officials investigated for breaching the Public Officers Ethics Act by taking part in political activities.

Some of the senior officials being investigated include; Commission General of Kenya Revenue Authority John Njiraini, PSs Karanja Kibicho (Internal Security) and Joseph Njoroge (Energy), the chairman of the Leather Development Council board Titus Ibui,  Head of Presidential Delivery Unit Andrew Wakahiu, Trans Nzoia County Commissioner Anne Gakuria and the principal of Namangofulo Secondary School in Bungoma.

Mr Njiraini, Mr Ibui and Mr Njoroge are accused of violating the elections act by participating in President Uhuru Kenyatta's funds drive under the Friends of Jubilee Foundation.

Mr Kibicho and the other officials are accused of campaigning for Jubilee or facilitating Jubilee Party activities in their regions.
