Madaraka Express and Other Kenyan Trending Topics on 19th July 2017

Kenyans were on Wednesday engaged in heated debates on social media among them the Standard Gauge Railway, now referred to as the Madaraka Express.

#MadarakaExpress

The Madaraka Express was a subject of discussion after the Government showcased some of the achievements the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) had attained so far.

According to statistics from the government, so far 30,000 Kenyans had been employed under the project.

100 Kenyan railway engineers and 400 Diploma holders had been taken through railway courses in China and in Kenya.

The Government also noted that SGR had provided a cheaper and faster way of transportation from Mombasa to Nairobi.

Githurai in 2014 

The topic was a subject of discussion after 3 men who robbed and sexually assaulted a female Passenger in Githurai in 2014 were prosecuted.

The three were found guilty and sentenced to death.

Health CS Mailu

Health Cabinet Secretary Cleopha Mailu was trending after he closed down two popular hotels in the city.

The CS closed Jacaranda & San Valencia hotels following a cholera outbreak in Nairobi.

Dr Mailu also ordered that food handlers in the city be retested & certified.

The hashtag was a subject of discussion after Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya was accused of violating procurement laws in the county.

Some of the allegations facing the governor include; irregularly single sourcing the services of a law firm without following the provisions of the Public Procurement Act.
