Acting Interior CS Fred Matiang'i to Meet NASA, Jubilee and Other Parties Over Election Security

Acting Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi has disclosed that he will hold a meeting with the National Super Alliance (NASA) and other parties taking part in the August elections.

The new development came after he held a meeting with the African Union Election Observer Group led by former South African President Thabo Mbeki.

The meeting was confirmed in a statement issued on behalf of the Cabinet Secretary by National Government Communications Centre.

Part of the statement read: “The government is not a party to the election. We provide security to everyone.”

The forum will also bring together other stakeholders in the August elections and will address government preparedness as the country heads to a hotly contested election among other issues.

The date of the meeting is yet to be disclosed.

NASA has accused the Ministry of Interior and other state agencies of conspiring to rig the presidential elections in favour of the incumbent President Uhuru Kenyatta of Jubilee Party.

The Opposition further alleged that 42 officers from the military and other disciplined forces had been deployed by the Jubilee administration to aid in its rigging plans.

It also raised issues with the heavy security personnel and equipment deployed to its strongholds, terming it an attempt by the government to intimidate NASA supporters.
