Acting Interior CS Fred Matiang'i Declares NASA's Adopt a Polling Strategy Illegal

National Super Alliance (NASA) may have to go back to the drawing following an announcement by acting Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS) Fred Matiang'i.

The CS declared NASA's "adopt a polling station" illegal crushing the Opposition's hopes of having agents at polling stations to safeguard its votes during the August polls.

Matiang'i clarified that only presiding officers, deputies, polling clerks and accredited party agents will be allowed in polling stations on August 8.

Speaking on Friday when he met security officials, the CS stated that "there is no room anywhere in the law or even in the arrangements that we have for anybody collecting hoodlums in the name of protecting ballot boxes and taking them to polling stations."

Under the adopt a polling station initiative, the opposition had announced plans to have monitors at each centre to guard votes and prevent any rigging.

"The protection of ballot is our responsibility with the IEBC and we have not asked anyone for help," Matiang'i added.

He confirmed that police would not allow any chaos at polling stations and would throw out anyone who is not listed on a circular issued by Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission.

"Anyone who is not mentioned in the circular should be removed from the polling stations by all means possible," he affirmed.

NASA had announced an ambitious plan to guard its presidential votes across all the 41000 polling stations at a cost of Sh 410 Million.

Its presidential candidate Raila Odinga has on numerous occasions claimed that Jubilee was working with state agencies and IEBC to rig the elections in favour of President Uhuru Kenyatta of Jubilee.
