NASA Tallying Centre is In Kenya and the Clouds - Raila Declares

Opposition Leader Raila Odinga on Monday underplayed reports that the National Super Alliance (NASA) had set up a tallying centre in Tanzania.

Speaking during the Presidential debate, Mr Odinga did not give a straight answer on the matter instead stating that the idea was a "pure imagination".

He, however, explained that no law barred NASA from having a tallying centre and insisted that the Opposition would tally the election results.

"We have made it clear that we will tally. Why should some people get worried where the tallying will be?

"It can be in Germany or the moon. But it will be in Kenya and the clouds," Mr Odinga stated.

The former Prime Minister noted that following the Court of Appeal's decision that all results be declared at the constituency, the matter of a NASA tallying centre should not be an issue of discussion.

“Why should somebody be worried about a polling centre whether it is in Germany, Tanzania or even on the moon? It should not be an issue,” Odinga stated.

Earlier on, President John Magufuli’s government through the government spokesperson Hassan Abbas strongly dismissed the claims terming them as a "mistake beyond reality".

“The attempt to link the peace loving government of Tanzania with involvement in neighbours' elections is a mistake beyond reality,” Tanzania stated via Twitter.

Speculations of Tanzania working closely with NASA emerged after the Opposition alliance announced in June that it would set up three parallel tallying centres to monitor the upcoming elections.
