Chief Police Inspector Biot Miruni Wafula Appears in Court While Drunk

Chief Inspector of Police Biot Miruni Wafula was today thrown into remand cells for appearing in court while drunk and disorderly.

Wafula was appearing as one of the witnesses in a case involving police imposter Joshua Waiganjo.

Mr Wafula was found too drunk to give his testimony thus Principal Magistrate Joe Omido ordered he be remanded in the court cells.

The prosecution led by Ms Sandra Kosgei told the court that the witness was not in his right frame of mind to give his testimony and thus she could not proceed with the hearing.

He was detained for two hours and released on Sh50,000 bond. He will appear in court to face charges of appearing in court drunk.

Former Police Commissioner Mathew Iteere and five other witnesses were also expected in court but failed to show up.

Iteere was expected to answer to allegations levelled against him, in particular, whether he recruited Waiganjo into the police force in 2009 as alleged by the impostor's family.

The court heard that Mr Iteere, who was supposed to appear following court summons, was not served with the orders.

The prosecution further told the court that other witnesses, Jacinta Wasonga and Chief Inspector Nzioka were held up in official duties.

Another witness, former Naivasha Police Boss Earnest Obonyo, was said to be unwell.

Waiganjo is facing five charges of impersonation after he was caught posing as an assistant commissioner of police in 2012.

He faced three other charges of being in possession of government stores contrary to section 36 of the penal code.

The fifth charge stated that on the 8th of June 2012, he was found wearing a police uniform with the rank of an assistant commissioner of police in Naivasha town.

In 2017, Waiganjo was released on bond by a Naivasha Court after spending over four years in custody.

Waiganjo is seeking to be the next Njoro Member of Parliament as an independent candidate.
