IEBC Postpones Election for Kitutu Chache South Constituency

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) on Thursday announced postponement of the parliamentary election in Kitutu Chache South Constituency until a later date.

The Commission called for the postponement following the death of the Jubilee candidate Leonard Gwaro Mwamba two weeks ago.

In the upcoming elections, Kitutu Chache South registered voters will only cast votes for the Presidential, Gubernatorial, Senatorial Woman Rep and Member of County Assembly positions.

IEBC Commissioner Paul Kurgat in an interview with a local daily noted that the electoral agency will set a new date after the General Election to allow the residents vote in their new Legislator.

"We have resolved to postpone the Kitutu Chache South parliamentary elections to a later date," he stated.

He further noted that IEBC had asked the Jubilee party to nominate a replacement but the ruling party delayed in its nominations forcing the polls body to arrive at the decision to put off the contest.

The postponement now means that incumbent Richard Onyonka of Ford Kenya and ODM's Samuel Omwando will have to wait a little longer before they get their new opponent.

The late Mwamba died on Friday, July 14th, 2017 after he was involved in a road accident at Nyakoe Market along Kisii-Kisumu road.

Mwamba died after the Land Cruiser Prado he was travelling in lost control and crashed.
