Security Features on IEBC Presidential Ballot Papers

Dubai-based printing firm, Al Ghurair has introduced new security features on the presidential ballot papers for the August elections.

Unlike in the past, the ballots will have features that will make it almost impossible to duplicate or prone to ballot stuffing.

The ballot paper specifications will include Ultraviolet (UV) features. These are special marks that can be seen using UV light.

Each of the ballot papers will be embossed, have a micro text, tapered serialization, and a water mark.

Serialization is the process of translating data structures or object state into a format that can be stored

The ballot papers will further have anti-copy features.

They will also contain Guilloche security patterns which are spirograph-like curves that frame a curve within an inner and outer envelope curve.

The Guilloche patterns are common on banknotes and passports worldwide for added security against counterfeiting.

Apart from the feasible serial number appearing in all other ballot papers, the presidential ballot will have a similar number that can only be seen using UV light similar to the one that appears on currency.

Al Ghurair, that was cleared to print presidential ballot papers on July 20 has announced the printing process is now complete.

Speaking to a Kenyan delegation on Thursday, the firm assured that the papers would arrive in the country in two consignments on July 31 and August 1.
