Jubilee Party (JP) on Saturday suffered a major blow after the Political Parties Dispute Tribunal (PPDT) quashed the party's nomination list for Nairobi Members of County Assembly submitted to IEBC.
PPDT members led by Chairman Kyalo Mbobu, James Atema, and Hassan Abdi, directed JP to create a new list of nominees in compliance with the set laws.
"The reconstitution of the party list is to be done in strict compliance with all the relevant laws and shall as far as is reasonably practicable reflect the ethnic diversity of the people of Nairobi County drawn from the Jubilee Party membership," Mbobu directed.
The tribunal further directed that Jubilee should consult with the petitioners and inform them on any decisions made relating to the matter.
PPDT made the ruling following a petition that had been filed by Sunctus Ndegwa, John Njoroge Munani, Saumu Saidi and David Muchai Kinyanjui.
In their petition, the team noted that the list submitted to IEBC was illegal since outsiders had also been included in the list.
The petitioners asked the tribunal to cancel the nominations on grounds that stakeholders had not been consulted in the nomination process.
"We are persuaded that the Jubilee Party list submitted to IEBC for nomination is not entirely compliant with the law and that the process of its preparation was not consultative," the petitioners explained.
The Nairobi list becomes the second Jubilee Ward-Rep nomination list to be canceled after PPDT rejected MCAs nomination for Nyeri County on Friday.
The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) could also face a similar wrath after persons with disabilities asked PPDT to cancel the list for Nairobi nominees for MCAs submitted by the party to IEBC, claiming that their names were left out by the selection panel.
