2 People Hospitalised in Bungoma After Being Attacked While Campaigning for ODM

Two people are fighting for their lives in the Bungoma county referral hospital after being attacked as they were campaigning for Opposition leader Raila Odinga and Kanduyi ODM parliamentary candidate John Makali.

The two were attacked and pelted with stones and other weapons leaving them with serious injuries on the head, neck and on their backs.

Reports indicate that Makali supporters' vehicle was blocked after which their rivals stormed in and beat them up.

Bungoma South Police chief confirmed the attack adding that investigations into the matter had already begun.

The police boss noted that the attackers were well known and would be brought to book.

"We are cautioning politicians to refrain from incidents that could lead to loss of lives, bloodshed, and destruction of properties, " the police head stated.

Mr Makali, on his part, denounced the attack and called on the County Commissioner Joshua Chepchieng and IEBC to intervene and ensure justice is served.

"We are really annoyed and saddened by this attack on my campaigners and innocent boys by the Ford Kenya brigade. We want them to attack us who are the big fish and not these young boys who cannot defend themselves," Makali stated.

The attack on the ODM supporters comes only a day after IEBC banned gubernatorial campaigns in the county after supporters of Governor Ken Lusaka and those of his rival Wycliffe Wangamati clashed at a funeral.
