IEBC Suspends Campaigns for Bungoma Governor Candidates Ken Lusaka and Wycliffe Wangamati

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has suspended campaigns for Bungoma Governor candidates Ken Lusaka (Jubilee) and Ford-Kenya Party's Wycliffe Wangamati.

The decision was made after Lusaka and Wangamati were Tuesday summoned to appear before the IEBC Code of Conduct committee in Nairobi following chaos that rocked a funeral they attended in Kimilili on Saturday.

The two will now wait for a determination of the matter with a heavy penalty hanging over their heads should they be found guilty of causing the chaos.

Bungoma Ford-Kenya Secretary General Peter Wakulekha said the two were served the summons letter by Bungoma County IEBC returning officer Ketitia Ole Metita.

"The letter is requesting Wangamati and Lusaka to appear before the electoral agency to explain what happened at Kimilili funeral," Wakhuleha stated.

Wakulekha said Ford Kenya was committed to peaceful campaigns and elections, urging Jubilee to follow the same.

On Monday, two people were injured after Lusaka's supporters engaged in a violent confrontation with those of Wangamati.

The two groups had attended the burial of Lusaka's campaign coordinator, Edward Juma who was attacked and shot dead last week.

Wangamati's supporters are said to have arrived at the funeral playing loud music while declaring support for NASA thus sparking a violent confrontation with their Jubilee counterparts.

The Ford Kenya supporters were forced to flee the scene with some vehicles at the ceremony being damaged.

This is not the first time Lusaka and Wangamati have been summoned by IEBC.

In June they were both slapped with Sh1 Million fine after one person died in Bungoma in a chaotic rally they had attended.
