President Uhuru Kenyatta to Campaign in Narok After Maasai Elders Endorsed Raila Odinga

President Uhuru Kenyatta is on Friday expected to return to Narok County to drum up support for his re-election bid.

The President is making the visit just a few hours after Maasai elders endorsed Opposition leader Raila Odinga.

It is still not clear whether the move was part of President Kenyatta's itinerary or whether he just made the decision to consolidate their vote in the region after Odinga's endorsement.

Earlier reports from State House had indicated that the President would visit Kisii, Nyamira, and Kuria on August 4.

On Wednesday, a section of Maasai leaders from Kajiado and Narok Counties endorsed Mr Odinga noting that he would protect their rights to own land.

Led by Kajiado Governor David Nkedianye, Narok gubernatorial candidates Patrick ole Ntutu of Chama Cha Mashinani (CCM) and ODM's Joseph Tiambati, the leaders stated that Odinga had demonstrated that he had good plans for the Massai community.

“As Maa speaking tribes we have made up our minds about who to vote for on Tuesday next week. And that is Raila Amolo Odinga of the National Super Alliance," Nkedianye declared.

According to an Infotrak poll, Narok and Kajiado are considered battle ground counties and whoever gets more votes in the regions could emerge victorious.

Other swing counties according to the research group include; Lamu, Isiolo, Samburu, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Uasin Gishu and Nairobi.
