Kisumu ANC Governorship Candidate Peter Omollo Quits Race to Support Anyang' Ny'ongo

Amani National Congress Kisumu gubernatorial candidate Peter Omollo has bowed out of the race with only three days to the elections.

The ANC candidate stepped down during a NASA rally attended by Opposition leaders Raila Odinga, Kalonzo Musyoka, Musalia Mudavadi and Moses Wetang’ula in Kisumu on Thursday.

Mr Omollo noted that he had quit the race to support the candidature of Prof Anyang’ Nyong’o of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM)

He asked his supporters to vote for Nyong’o adding that the Senator was the best man for the job.

"I have decided to back Nyong’o after wider consultations with my supporters. We all have the capacity to be governors but we can only have one governor at a time," he stated.

His running mate Peres Ondiek, however, noted that she had not been consulted adding that Omollo had let the people of Kisumu down.

"This is a total letdown for our supporters. It is not fair and respectful to our supporters and women seeking leadership," she stated.

Senator Nyong’o and his running mate Mathew Owili welcome the endorsement explaining that Omollo had taken the bold step to back them for the seat.

Prof Nyong'o also took a swipe at incumbent Governor Jack Ranguma accusing him of having a poor development record, nepotism and running a corrupt administration.

The Kisumu governorship contest has now left four candidates who will square it out on August 8th. The four candidates are; Nyong'o, Ranguma, Mr David Wayiera and Mrs Atieno Otieno.
