Chinese SGR Workers Robbed Sh15Million at Karen Estate

Police are investigating an incident in Karen estate where four Chinese men who work for the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) claim they were robbed of their valuables and Sh15 Million.

The workers stated that their home - which is guarded by armed officers - was broken into on Thursday night by five masked men who had a shotgun and made away with laptops and wrist watches.

When police went to the residence on Friday, they did not see any sign of forced entry and suspect that intruders gained access to the house through the door.

Officers guarding the residence also stated that they did not hear any commotion thus casting doubt over the alleged robbery incident.

In January, a similar incident was reported and two policewomen were charged with robbing two Chinese nationals of Sh10 Million.

The two were also employees of the China Road and Bridge Company (CRBC), the firm contracted to build the SGR.

According to the prosecution, the officers had been assigned to guard a section of the SGR project.

The court heard that the two Chinese workers had withdrawn the money from a bank at Sameer Business Park on Mombasa Road when they were accosted by the police officers.

It is alleged the officers forced the complainants out of a car they were travelling in and threatened to shoot them if they raised the alarm.
