Tuskys and Naivas Supermarkets have announced that all their branches countrywide will be closed on August 8.
Through adverts placed on local dailies, the two supermarkets stated that they would halt operations to give customers and staff an opportunity to vote.
The Naivas advert read: “We shall remain closed on August 8, 2017 to allow our customers and staff to vote. Enjoy shopping with us over the weekend.”
Tuskys was more specific noting that its stores would be opened after the elections.
The Tusky’s advert read:“All Tuskys outlets shall remain closed on Tuesday, August 8, 2017, for the National Elections. Normal business shall resume on Wednesday, August 9, 2017.”
Earlier on Nakumatt Supermarket had announced that all their branches in the country would also be closed on August 8.
Through a notice on their Twitter handle, the retail giant said they would reopen on Wednesday, August 9.
Elsewhere Kenya Railways had also announced that the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) Madaraka Express Train will suspend its services on August 8.
Kenya Railway Managing Director Atanas Maina stated that the train will halt operations to allow SGR staff and other service providers to vote before later resuming operations.
