Armed Men Attack Galole Tallying Centre in Tana River County, 2 Attackers Shot Dead

Five armed men have attacked Galole tallying centre in Tana River where the counting of votes from the various polling stations was ongoing.

The five knife-wielding attackers stormed the centre, stabbed one person to death and injured several others.

The incident caused tension and disrupted the tallying exercise as IEBC officials and agent scampered for safety.

Police quickly moved in shooting dead two of the assailants while three others managed to escape on foot.

Coast Police boss Larry Kieng confirmed the attack assuring that police had launched a manhunt for the attackers.

"We understand that the tallying exercise is ongoing and if some leaders have sensed defeat and want to misuse the youth then they should know that we will deal them accordingly," he warned.

Earlier in the day, two people were killed in Nairobi's Mathare estate after protests turned violent.

Confirming the incident, Nairobi Police Commander Japheth Koome said that the two were attempting to attack police officers with pangas.

There were reported cases of unrest in some areas including Kibera, Kisumu county following claims of results manipulation.
