Embakasi East Parliamentary Certificate for Paul Ongili (Babu Owino) Disappears

There was drama at the Embakasi East constituency tallying centre after the certificate for the MP-elect, Paul Ongili alias Babu Owino, disappeared mysteriously.

Babu's disgruntled supporters claimed that there was a plot to deny him his certificate.

On his part, the MP-elect claimed the Returning Officer (RO), Mr Nicholas Burtuk, had been instructed to deny him the winner's certificate.

"We are not going to accept anything less than a certificate. We don’t want to know where you are going to get it.

"I know there are plans to deny me my victory but I tell you I have been elected by the people of Embakasi East and you cannot select leaders for them,” Babu stated.

The RO, however, disputed the claims stating that the certificate had been locked in an office and the officer who had the key had been arrested on Thursday morning.

Mr Burtuk's remarks were also disputed by the Embakasi police head who denied arresting the said logistics officer.

The blame game angered the former University of Nairobi students' leader who demanded a certificate, adding that it was his right and not a favour.

“You are not doing me a favour. You cannot select leaders for people of Embakasi East. I’m elected. We are not leaving here, you are not leaving here until I get my certificate,” he stated.

Babu's tough talk eventually yielded fruit when the Deputy Returning Officer found the certificate among other documents in the centre.

Mr Ongili, emerged victorious in the contest after garnering 43,862 against Jubilee Party's Francis Mureithi Wambugu who got 39,805.
