2 Police Officers Posing as Journalists Detained at NASA Tallying Center

Two police officers have been detained at the National Super Alliance (NASA) tallying center in Nairobi's Runda area.

The officers reportedly attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) were apprehended on Friday afternoon when they tried to access the premise pretending to be journalists.

Joseph Shimekha, who chairs the Nasa board responsible for coordination of agents, explained that the men seemed suspicious when the infiltrated the crew of journalists who had come to cover a press conference.

"We noticed that amongst the journalists, there were two suspicious characters who had gained access. I confronted them but realized they were not journalists because they were armed," he stated.

NASA's chief economist David Ndii confirmed the incident stating that the coalition had taken the necessary action against the trespassers.

"Sneaking into private property with intention of patrolling and snooping around is illegal. They claimed they were not armed but this shows their intentions are bad. This is supposed to be a political competition, not a security issue because what we are doing is not illegal," he conveyed.

The officers were thereafter driven away in two Subaru Forester vehicles to an unknown location.

Later on Friday afternoon, NASA abruptly shut down operations in their Runda presidential tallying center amid fears of an impending attack.

The officials within the facility were forced to close down operations after they allegedly received news that police from the Flying Squad unit were on their way to the facility.
