The Ministry of Youth and Gender Affairs has requested all the 47 County Woman Representatives who sat in the 11th Parliament to return vehicles that had been allocated to them by the Government.
Speaking during a meeting with the National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF) at the Kenya School of Government, Youth and Gender Cabinet Secretary Sicily Kariuki noted that most incumbents had lost but were still using the vehicles.
She further noted that the vehicles were meant for elected Woman Reps and as such, should be returned to enhance a smooth transition.
“A substantive number (11) of women representatives have lost their seats and subsequently their roles as patrons of the fund at the county level,” she stated.
Ms Kariuki noted that the vehicles should be returned to the respective county commissioner to facilitate a smooth transition and NGAAF management at the county level.
The fund was established to facilitate the operations of the Legislators in their respective counties.
As a pioneer, Sh500 Million was set aside for the purchase of the motor vehicles for the National Fund Secretariat and each county secretariat.
Each county was allocated Sh10 Million equating to two vehicles each.
During the transition period, all County Coordinators will be required to give a detailed inventory of all vehicles, stating their condition, and all other fund assets in the county.
