Baringo South Parliamentary Candidate Charles Kamuren Hospitalised After Police Beating

Baringo South Parliamentary Candidate Charles Kamuren has been hospitalised after he was allegedly beaten by police officers.

Kamuren, who was vying on a Kenya African National Union (KANU) ticket, was beaten and injured after chaos broke out on August 9, a day after the election.

“I had no quarrel with anybody, mine was just to see to it that fair results were being announced but police suddenly turned violent.

“They roughed me up and beat me up before dispersing my supporters by shooting [at] them with live bullets,” Kamuren said during an interview with The Star.

Kamuren disclosed that he was admitted to a Nakuru hospital, but did not specify which one. He noted that he was out of danger but needed more time to rest.

The former Baringo Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Executive Secretary lost to Baringo South MP Grace Kipchoim who was vying on a Jubilee Pary ticket.

Kipchoim garnered 10,300 votes against Kamuren’s 10,184.

Kamuren has been a KANU-Nominated MCA in Baringo County Assembly since 2015.

The controversial KNUT Leader got the post after losing the Baringo South Parliamentary seat in 2013.
