24 IEBC Officials Among 85 People Facing Prosecution Over Election Rigging

24 IEBC officials are among 85 people facing prosecution over cases related to the General Election.

Of the remaining sixty-one, 59 are not IEBC officials while two are government officers.

Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Keriako Tobiko said on Friday that they are prosecuting 70 cases that arose from post-election chaos.

According to the DPP, 17 of the accused were caught issuing bribes, 19 others failed to perform their official duties and 10 were found with ballot papers.

In the murder category was one person, three were in the impersonation section while the cases of 20 were not categorised.

The General Election was marred by several irregularities although IEBC maintained the process was credible.

Members of the Opposition will today submit their petition to the Supreme Court as they believe National Super Alliance (NASA) flag bearer Raila Odinga won the election.

On August 8, the commission was forced to replace some of its agents after they were found flouting rules.

IEBC replaced a clerk who stamped ballot papers as rejected, and presiding officers in Embakasi East, Kasarani and Westlands over delays.

On the voting day, a photo of a ballot paper stamped 'IEBC rejected' had been circulating on social media, prompting the electoral agency to take action.
