President Uhuru Kenyatta Welcomes NASA Move to File Petition at The Supreme Court

President Uhuru Kenyatta has broken his silence regarding a petition filed by the National Super Alliance (NASA) challenging his re-election.

In a statement to newsrooms, President Kenyatta through his Spokesperson Manoah Esipisu noted that the Head of State welcomed the move and hailed Opposition Leader Raila Odinga for making the right choice.

"We are glad that the Rt Hon Raila Odinga and NASA have chosen to file a petition in the Supreme Court.

"They have made it clear that they are dissatisfied with the results announced by the IEBC. The proper place to contest the IEBC’s findings is in the court of law designated by the constitution to handle that process, which has the power to call for evidence, and to issue a binding verdict,” the statement read in part.

Regarding the President's diary, Esipisu stated that the Head of State would be attending the inauguration on new Nairobi and Bomet Governors Mike Sonko and Joyce Laboso respectively.

Meanwhile, President Kenyatta, today attended a church service at the at Ngong Catholic Church, Kajiado County where he urged Kenyans to continue praying for peace and unity and steer away from tension resulting from politics.

"There is no need for tension or fear, Kenya will still be there after elections," he stated.

Deputy President William Ruto who accompanied the President for the church service also commented on the petition for the first time noting that it was encouraging to see leaders respecting the rule of law by lodging their electoral petitions in courts.

"Although we have differences of opinion, it is impressive that leaders are committed to following the rule of law in addressing such issues.

"Disputes arising from elections can always be solved through the Constitution and in a peaceful manner," he stated.

On Friday, NASA filed a petition at the Supreme Court challenging President Kenyatta's re-election.
