Former Tiaty MP Asman Kamama Quits Politics

Former Tiaty Member of Parliament (MP) Asman Kamama on Tuesday announced his retirement from politics after he lost the parliamentary contest in the General Election.

Kamama, who was defeated by new entrant William Kamket of KANU, indicated that he was retiring from politics to focus on other things including his personal businesses.

“I wish Mr Kamket well in his leadership. I am exiting politics for good to join the business world and I do not want to interfere with his leadership.

"My wish is they focus on education and the insecurity menace in the region,” Kamama told the Nation.

The outgoing MP promised to support the new leadership and assured the residents of Tiaty that he would always be available to serve them in other capacities.

Prior to announcing his retirement from politics, Kamama had served as a legislator for 15 years having first been elected in 2002 on a Ford-People ticket.

In 2007, he joined the Party of National Unity (PNU) where he was re-elected for his second term.

The outgoing Legislator joined Deputy President William Ruto's United Republican Party (URP) in 2013 and was again re-elected for a third term.

In his last term, he chaired the powerful National Assembly Security Committee and played a key role in coming up with the Security Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2014.

Kamama, however, came under fierce criticism and was adversely blamed in his last year as MP following rampant cattle rustling and banditry attacks in Baringo County.

In the last elections, the former MP vied under the pro-Uhuru Maendeleo Chap Chap Party after losing in the Jubilee nominations.
