22 Digital Literacy Tablets Stolen in Trans Nzoia

Police in Trans Nzoia are investigating the theft of 22 digital literacy program tablets at Bokoli Primary School in  Cherangany sub-county.

Bokoli Primary School Headteacher Joash Barasa while addressing the media stated that that the government had given the institution 59 devices for the program, which they were yet to start using.

"We had scheduled to start the program soon and all training for teachers had been completed. Pupils had been informed that they would start using the devices this week,” Brasa stated.

Cherangany police boss Abel Ogulu on his part indicated that security had been beefed up in the area and police were following serious leads on the incident.

The Police head further indicated that the boxes that had carried the devices were recovered at a nearby forest and urged all residents to volunteer information to police that will result in the recovery of the devices and arrest of the suspects.

The Jubilee Government led by President Uhuru Kenyatta had promised to give every class one pupil free laptops as part of the Digital Learning Programme (DLP).

The campaign promise, however, hit a low start as many schools were faced with issues of power connectivity and network issues.

Data from the Ministry of Information, however, indicates that approximately 700,000 tablets had been distributed to public primary schools by end January 2017.
