Ruth Odinga Left Out in Top County Appointment by Kisumu Governor Anyang' Nyong'o

Former Kisumu Deputy Governor Ruth Odinga has lost a key county appointment for which she was among the top contenders.

Ms Odinga was set to take over as the Kisumu Couty Secretary, however, Governor Anyang' Nyong'o appointed a Siaya County executive to the position.

Former Health Executive Olang’o Onudi has accepted Governor Nyongo's appointment to the position awaiting the approval of the county assembly.

The two have previously worked together in the Ministry of Health in 2009.

The Governor, while serving as minister for Medical Services, picked Dr Onudi to head the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC).

Dr Onudi on Thursday confirmed that he had accepted the offer and that his first order of business would be an audit of the county’s work force.

Along with Ruth Odinga, Nyongo’s campaign team Chairman Patrick Ouya and former campaign manager Nerry Achar were speculated to be potential candidates for the County Secretary position.

Ruth Odinga's deputy governor position was taken up by Dr Mathew Owili Ochieng who was Prof. Nyong'o's running mate.
