The government is set to roll out employment opportunities for nearly 900,000 youths starting next month.
The opportunities under the National Youth Opportunities Towards Advancement (NYOTA) program are divided into four initiatives and are backed by the World Bank.
According to a Cabinet Dispatch, the government disclosed that currently, there was an ongoing call for the On-the-Job programme targeting 90,000 youth for three- to six-month paid placements with employers.
In the initiative, youth are remunerated with monthly stipends of Ksh6,000 deposited into Haba Haba savings accounts.
Structured into four components, NYOTA includes paid on-the-job training, entrepreneurship support, and Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) certification.
In the program, close to a million youths stand to benefit from the initiative, which is a partnership between the Kenyan government and the World Bank.
“In line with the government’s plan to create employment and opportunities for the youth, the Cabinet endorsed the August 2025 launch of the National Youth Opportunities Towards Advancement (NYOTA) Project, a flagship government and World Bank initiative targeting over 820,000 vulnerable and unemployed youth, including persons with disabilities,” the dispatch stated.
Currently, the government noted that over one million applications have been received.
Interested applicants were urged to send their applications within the timeline that expires on August 15. The window for applications had opened on Friday, July 11.
“The programme aims to enhance employability, skills recognition, and access to decent work and is a key pillar of the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA),” the dispatch read.
NYOTA joins the Climate WorX Mtaani initiative in programs created by the President William Ruto-led administration to create employment for Kenyans.
Launching Climate WorX in September last year in Nairobi, Ruto noted that it was meant to address environmental challenges while providing employment opportunities for young people. So far, it has employed 21,493 youths in Nairobi County alone.
