NASA to Hold Prayers Ahead of Supreme Court Hearing - Moses Wetangula Announces

National Super Alliance (NASA) Principal Moses Wetangula has made four announcements on behalf of the opposition coalition before the commencement of the presidential election petition hearing on Monday.

Addressing journalists on Friday at the Okoa Kenya offices in Nairobi, the Bungoma Senator-elect revealed that the coalition had come up with an elaborate plan on how to navigate their election petition in the courts.

“We expect each of our members to accompany NASA leaders to the Supreme Court to attend the hearing on Monday,” Wetangula conveyed.

He added that the Opposition would keep vigil in Nairobi as well other parts of the country as they wait for the petition hearing to begin.

“We will hold a prayer session on Sunday 27th before the hearing on Monday,” he affirmed.

The prayers are set to be held outside the Supreme Court.

In a move to consolidate their position in parliament, the NASA principal disclosed that the coalition would arrange a retreat for members to get to know each other and nominate those who are going to occupy the leadership positions in both houses of parliament.

The retreat is set to be held in two weeks time.

On the issue of Swearing-in of elected legislatures, Wetangula opined that President Uhuru Kenyatta should wait until the challenge to his election is determined by the Supreme Court before summoning Parliament.

“As a coalition, we will formally communicate to our members and issue a way forward for the event by Monday or Tuesday next week,” he stated.

Earlier on, Garissa Town MP-elect Aden Duale confirmed that Members of Parliament (MPs) are ready for the outcome of the Presidential election petition including an eventuality where President Uhuru Kenyatta’s win would be overturned, and the country forced to go back to the polls.

Addressing the media at Parliament buildings on Friday, Mr Duale disclosed that should Raila Odinga win the petition, parliament would be called upon to allocate funding for the IEBC to conduct a re-run election.
