ODM Members Move to High Court to Stop Homa Bay County Assembly Nominations

A group of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) members have moved to the High Court seeking to stop the nomination of four Ward Representatives in Homa Bay County.

The group comprising of Amina Osmail, Hellen Adhiambo, Ruth Adoyo and Lorna Owina claims that they were wrongfully ejected from the party's nomination list.

The four ODM members, through their lawyer Joseph Kimani, want the court to suspend the nomination of Rael Achieng’, Pamela Akinyi, Jane Ojowa and Beatrice Achieng’.

“Unless the court intervenes immediately and grants the orders sought, IEBC will proceed to Gazette seats in Homa-Bay County Assembly on the basis of the purported unlawful amendments to the ODM party lists,” the lawyer stated.

The members want the court to stop any implementations on the list submitted until after the hearing and determination of the petition.

The application was served before Justice John Mativo who directed the petitioners to serve all the respondents that include; ODM, IEBC and the four nominees who are the interested parties within seven days.

Justice Mativo further noted that the matter would be heard on October 3rd, 2017.

The move to sue the Raila Odinga-led party comes even as its leaders are engaged in a heated petition challenging the re-election of President Uhuru Kenyatta.
