KDF Officer Kills 14-year-old Boy, Injures Class 5 Pupil in Laikipia County

A Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) officer has shot dead a 14-year-old boy in Rumuruti Town, Laikipia.

Further reports indicate that the officer also shot and injured a Standard Five pupil.

Rift Valley Regional Coordinator Wanyama Musiambo confirmed the incident saying that the suspect has been arrested.

In March, President Uhuru Kenyatta ordered the deployment of the military to Laikipia following continuous invasions on private ranches.

This was after Pokot bandits raided the Mukutan Retreat, burned property and left several people wounded.

A section of leaders from the Maasai community, however, demanded the withdrawal of the KDF soldiers dispatched to the area claiming the officers were using brutal force in the operation.

The leaders alleged that the officers were going around arresting locals and shooting their livestock in the process.

Former Laikipia North MP Mathew Lempurkel accused the police of killing over 20,000 heads of cattle in the drought stricken area.
